What 2.5″ of Rain Looks Like on the River

There are lots of folks who think of the Pedernales River as a sleepy little stream, hardly worth concern. However, it can carry a lot of water downstream after a rain.  Here are a few pictures that contrast the normal flow of our “sleepy” river after a cumulative rainfall of 2.5″ on June 8, 2023. Click the images to see a larger version of each.

Early on the morning of June 8, 2023, we had a rainstorm that dropped about 1.3″ of rain in a short period of time. Later, near noon, another rainstorm moved through the area and dropped about 1.2″ of rain for a total cumulative rainfall of 2.5″. The river surged over the low water crossing and left behind small gravel. The river level quickly subsided.
