Numerous creeks feed into the Pedernales River. Some are actively flowing creeks and others are seasonal. Some creeks, like Baron’s Creek have multiple public access points. Below is a list of publicly accessible points on creeks that feed into the Pedernales. As more are identified, they will be added to the list.
- Baron’s Creek @ S. Bowie St.
- Baron’s Creek @ S. State Hwy 16 near Ufer
- Baron’s Creek @ 1631 north of Main
- Baron’s Creek @ Goehmann Lane north of 290E/Main
- Baron’s Creek @ Old San Antonio Rd
- Palo Alto Creek @ Lonesome Trail
- Blumenthal Creek @ Hwy 290E west of Jung Lane
- Grape Creek @ Hwy 290E
There are other creeks that flow into the Pedernales but not all have public access points. these include:
- Cave Creek
- Threemile Creek
If you are a landowner on any of these creeks please contact us for information on how you can become a vital part of this effort.
We will not be able to monitor all of these access points for water quality at this time. We do not have enough trained volunteers or water quality testing kits. We get both training and testing kits from Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA). The program there is underfunded and we are waiting on the next available slot for training. As slots do become available, we will offer them to the next people in the waiting list.
Water Quality Monitoring requires a two year commitment and monthly water monitoring. Do you see yourself doing this kind of Citizen Science? If so, submit your contact information below.
In the meantime, we can photo document at these points. If you are interested in photo documentation all you need is a camera or a smart phone and we will train you. Photo documentation can be done less frequently than water sampling/testing. It may require that you take pictures of swollen creeks though you shall not enter a creek at flood stage. We do not want to lose a volunteer to enthusiasm! Photo documentation is something you can start doing right now. If you are interested in photo documenting, use the form below to contact us.
